I hope everyone reading this paper today had a good Christmas break, and are looking forward to all that the New Year brings.
As 2025 comes into view, I will be continuing to make the case for better measures to tackle rural crime and fly-tipping and to support local farmers – many of whom are currently very worried about the new government’s punitive Family Farm Tax. There are similar concerns from family businesses too, many of which could be forced to close if Labour’s tax plans for farms and businesses go ahead.
I will be continuing my campaigns to bring a lift to Platform 4 at Brentwood Station and introduce a Weight Restriction Order on Ongar High Street to stop huge lorries thundering through this historic town. I’ll also be watching the decision on the Lower Thames Crossing which is due in May, having been postponed by the then Transport Secretary, the Rt,. Hon. Louise Haigh, in October. I know it is a controversial project for some, but something has to be done to ease the congestion on the Dartford Crossing which makes travel to and from Brentwood so stressful.
I also want to do more to encourage local people to visit local pubs – if we don’t use our inns we lose them and we are all poorer for it. So please consider taking time for a weekly pint in a local pub (it doesn’t have to be beer).
If there are any issues you would like me to support do get in touch. As always, you can find information about what I am doing in the constituency and in Parliament, and how to contact me at www.alexburghart.org.uk
