Essex County Council is running a consultation on its proposals for the A1023 Brentwood Walking and Cycling Scheme, which aims to help encourage more people to walk and cycle in Brentwood, particularly for shorter journeys.
The consultation runs until Wednesday 13 November 2024.
The consultation webpage is available at: https://letstalkessexsustainabletravel.co.uk/a1023-brentwood-walking-and-cycling-scheme.
You can also read about the scheme and our consultation in the Council's press release here: https://www.essexhighways.org/news/17/consultation-launched-on-proposed-a1023-brentwood-walking-and-cycling-scheme.
Essex County Council has also provided the following information:
A1023 Brentwood Walking and Cycling Scheme
The proposed scheme involves creating a new one mile long shared-use waking and cycling path along the southern side of the A1023 between the Brook Street roundabout (M25 junction 28 roundabout) and Kavanaghs Road in Brentwood. We are also providing new signalised crossings for pedestrians and cyclists at key locations along the route.
We are developing the scheme on behalf of National Highways, which is required to provide a walking and cycle route from Brentwood, through junction 28 of the M25 and into Havering as part of the consent given for its M25 junction 28 improvements scheme. Separate schemes to improve the route through the M25 junction 28 junction and into Havering are being developed and delivered by National Highways and the London Borough of Havering.
The scheme would help provide a safer and much-improved route along the A1023 Brook Street/London Road in Brentwood, encouraging and supporting more people to walk and cycle, particularly for shorter journeys.
Public consultation
Having developed a proposed design, we are now asking residents, businesses and visitors for feedback on the scheme through a public consultation, which launched today and runs until Wednesday 13 November 2024.
The consultation provides an opportunity for people to share their views on specific elements of the proposed scheme and our designs. The feedback will then be used to help us refine and finalise our designs, and ensure the scheme best meets the needs of the local community.
The best way for people to find out more about our proposals and have their say is by visiting our consultation webpage at: https://letstalkessexsustainabletravel.co.uk/a1023-brentwood-walking-and-cycling-scheme. The page includes an online consultation survey, as well as a map tool which allows people to comment on location-specific parts of the route or proposed scheme. Alternatively, if people are unable to view or use the map tool, these comments can be submitted as part of the survey.
Printed copies of the consultation information and survey can be requested by email at: [email protected]. Once completed, printed copies of the survey can be posted to the following freepost address (please note the address is case sensitive): FREEPOST ESSEX HIGHWAYS ENGAGEMENT TEAM
We will also have printed copies of the survey and our consultation information available from Brentwood Library. Large printed versions of our design drawings and artist’s impressions will be on display at the library throughout the consultation.
How can you help?
We would really welcome the views of you and your business, group or organisation on the proposed scheme. We would encourage you to share your feedback by completing our consultation survey or sending us a response by email.
