I know my Brentwood and Ongar constituency has a strong collection of young female footballers who've been inspired by an historic 18 months in which the Lionesses have become EURO champions and World Cup finalists.
The Football Association has been in touch to say its ambitious target for 75% of schools to deliver equal access to football in PE lessons by 2024 has been met with time to spare, while there has been an out of school increase of 39% in the number of female youth teams since 2021. The future of women’s and girls’ football has never been brighter.
On Friday 8th March 2024, the third annual #LetGirlsPlay Biggest Ever Football Session will be taking place in schools across England. Last year 285,000 girls took part and I sincerely hope as many scholols as possible across Brentwood and Ongar have signed up to take part and set a new participation record.
The FA is looking to get as many girls as possible to all play football on the same day in schools across the country. This could be at lunchtime, in a lesson or after school. Whether the schools in your constituency are already delivering girls’ football or want to take that first step to offer girls equal access, this is an opportunity not to be missed.
If your school has not signed up yet, ask them to get in touch with the FA at https://girlsfootballinschools.org/index.php
