Essex Day
The feast of St Cedd, who preached to the apostate East Saxons and who died of plague on this day in 664.
Raised on Lindisfarne by Aidan, he is the patron saint of Essex.
I hope you have been able to celebrate Essex Day in style - and my thanks to the Secretary of State for Communities, the Rt. Hon. Michael Gove, for his letter of support for all events taking place in the county today. I'll be in Brentwood later to make some noise about this auspicious day.
