This year’s public exams – GCSEs, A Levels and BTECs are over, and I send my congratulations to all those who have made it through what has been a hot and sticky exam season. I have no doubt every young person who sat exams this year is delighted they are over, and they are looking forward to taking time to draw breath before having to make a decision about the next stage of their education, employment or training.
Behind every tired student is an exhausted teacher, and I send my best wishes and thanks to all those school staff in our Brentwood and Ongar schools who have taught, revised, cajoled, praised and supported each and everyone of those young people to finish their exams as successfully as possible.
There are plenty of holiday activities available to children of all ages across Essex, including the Essex ActivAte programme for youngsters aged 4-16 and who are eligible for free school meals. Essex County Council organises the programme and you can find more about it here: https://www.activeessex.org/children-young-people/essex-activate/explained/
Essex Library Services is running all kinds of activities for young children too, and there are opportunities for teenagers to volunteer to help with reading and listening activities. These are great things to put on CVs to demonstrate community involvement and time management and, if you love a library like I do, are great fun to do.
Whatever my young constituents have planned for the summer months, enjoy yourselves and make the most of all this wonderful area has to offer.
