I wrote a couple of weeks ago about the unexpected closure of the Anglo European School’s sixth form building and the swift work by the school, the Department for Education and Essex County Council to minimise disruption to students’ learning.
I’ve been involved in meetings between the school and the Department for Education since the block closure and am extremely pleased to hear the DFE has confirmed building work can progress. Temporary classrooms will be brought in to get face to face lessons back in place for all sixth formers, who are currently being taught online and in every possible office and adapted space in the school.
The Government has allocated over £13 billion since 2015 to maintain and improve school facilities across England, including £1.8 billion in this financial year.
Brentwood County High School applied for Priority School Build Funding in 2015 and is now in the midst of a huge rebuild. This has required immense organisation and skilled project management to keep staff and students in school safely while building two new classroom blocks and demolishing the old science block. You can see the progress of the rebuilding work here:

I was given a tour of the new buildings by a team of students last week, who are understandably very proud of the modern facilities which will enhance their education, and certainly matches the upward trajectory of the school which was awarded a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating last year. My congratulations to all involved in the hard work which went into achieving this rating, and I look forward to visiting again when the rebuilding project is completed in July next year
