Network Rail has been in touch to say further repairs are needed to the railway embankment behind Mountney Close in Ingatestone after further instability was identified in the area.
Work will start on 10th August 2022 carry out the repairs, with the project expected to complete on 12th September. As there is a danger to the railway - there is a dip in the London to Norwich track - the Network Rail team will be working 24/7 to complete a permanent repair of the embankment using sheet piles in as fast a time as possible.
Network Rail's Community Relations Manager, Jennifer O’Leary, issued the following statement to local residents:
"We’ll be accessing the work site through the hard standing by the play area at the end of Mountney Close. Part of the fence will be removed so staff, equipment and vehicles can move along the embankment to a site near 46-52 Mountney Close. We’ll be loading the piles onto slightly smaller lorries elsewhere and site staff will supervise the safe movement of these lorries and equipment through the area. We’ll need to clear some trees and vegetation along our land to safely bring the materials and equipment to site.
I’m particularly sorry that we’ll be again accessing the railway via the play area at Mountney Close. I know this was damaged by our previous work in the area to secure the embankment in 2021. As with our previous work, we’ll repair any damage to this area once the work has been completed. Our team will use a variety of equipment, including generators, lighting, power tools, dumper trucks, diggers and engineering trains. As a result, some disturbance is unavoidable, but every OFFICIAL effort will be made to minimise any unnecessary noise and those working on site will be briefed on working responsibly in the local community.
