I met with the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, the Rt. Hon. Michael Gove, to discuss my ongoing campaign to change the law to make it easier to deal with those who built on green belt land without permission.
There are currently a number of green belt sites in the Brentwood and Ongar constituency where building has taken place without the appropriate planning consents in place, and our local councils, Brentwood Borough Council and Epping Forest District Council, are doing excellent work to ensure those responsible are stopped.
In the last month two committal hearings have been held in to the breaches of an injunction imposed to stop any further breaches of planning control on the land known as ‘Five Acres’ in Warley. Seven men have received a variety of suspended prison sentences and fines for the breaches. A planning inquiry into the use of the land is still to be heard.
I continue to work with the Leader of Brentwood Borough Council, Cllr Chris Hossack, to ensure justice is done and that the residents of Warley have their voices heard in this case.
