Challenging the most-able students in a school is an admirable aim, so I was delighted to hear about Shenfield High Schools "super-curriculum" proposals for its students. Headteacher Carole Herman told me that while the less academically minded students and those with Special Educational Needs are already well catered for by the school, more could be done to be done to stretch those who have Russell Group university places in their sights. To this end, masterclasses and electives are being planned, as well as pointing pupils and their parents towards the theatre trips and exhibitions which tie in with study topics. I've suggested a school trip to Parliament, as I do to all schools - the Parliamentary Education team offers a brilliant tour tailored to the age of the children taking part.
