While constituency casework keeps me and my office staff busy every day of every week, there are some issues which need more of a push – and this can take some time.
This week has seen some movement in two of my main constituency campaigns. On Monday I met with representatives from Envar Composting, a specialist company which has taken over the composing operation at Ashlyn’s Farm in Ongar which was formerly run by Biogen.
In recent years, those living in Ongar and North Weald have been complaining about a terrible sporadic smell which sweeps across their properties at random times, and believed it came from the composting site.
The Envar team have told me they are re-organising the site to reduce the amount of green waste arriving, and bringing down the size of the windrows (composting stacks) to improve airflow. They are keen to work with the local community to ensure friendly and positive relations and I am hopeful their mitigations will stop the smell.
Over in Ingatestone and Haverings Grove, I am continuing my campaign to oppose National Grid’s proposal to build a line of massive pylons from Norwich to Tilbury. I want to see these line moved offshore, and not have the beautiful countryside around to the east of my constituency ruined by industrial sized metalwork.
There’s a public event at the Brentwood Centre this Thursday (25th) from 2pm to 7pm and I would encourage anyone who opposes the onshore pylon proposals to get down there and make your views known. I’ll be taking part and hope to see many of you there.
