The high winds blowing across Essex today have caused a number of closures of local facilities, and a call from Essex County Council for as many people as possible to stay at home.
There is significant risk that high winds will cause damage to buildings as well as some disruption to power and the road and rail networks. Essex County Council’s operations have also been affected.
Here is the latest information on the County Council's services across Essex:
- Essex County Parks are closed on Friday.
- Recycling Centres across the county are closed.
- ACL Essex Centres are closed. Exams booked for Friday will be rescheduled.
- All libraries and mobile libraries are closed with staff working from home.
- Park and Ride services are still running, however, this remains under constant review.
- Face-to-face registration appointments for births, deaths and marriage notices have been cancelled. Some pre-booked weddings are still going ahead at the moment.
- Some family centres are closed with meetings also cancelled, until responding to critical situations where there is risk of harm to a child.
- ECC’s contact centre is running as normal, with staff working from home. Priority is being given to the Highways and Social Care lines.
- Essex Wellbeing Service volunteers have been stood down on Friday but the service will be open over the weekend to help those affected by the storm.
- Two inquests are going ahead as planned at Seax House.
- Cressing Temple Barns is closed beyond the visitor centre. The Tiptree Tea Room remains open and a conference room booking is going ahead.
- Jaywick Martello Tower has been safely locked up.
- No activity is planned at any of our Mills, and all have been locked up. Staff will only attend in the case of an emergency.
