It was good to see so many local people at National Grid’s Norwich to Tilbury pylons proposal consultation event at the Brentwood Centre last week.
I spent some time at the event, looking at the information boards, seeing how the pylons will loom over homes and countryside via a 3D interactive display, and talking to the National Grid team, local residents and Conservative councillors whose Ingatestone, Hutton and West Horndon wards are affected by the proposals.
It is very concerning that National Grid is pressing ahead with the scheme to build a line of massive pylons from Norwich to Tilbury. I know from my Conservative colleagues in Parliament that there is substantial opposition to the proposals all the way along the line. I will continue to do what I can to support local protestors and residents in opposing the project as it stands.
I will continue to call for an offshore option to be considered, which would stop the need for vast swathes of land to be cleared for pylons to be built, and for access roads to be put in place. I am talking to a number of experts about how best to respond to the consultation whose deadline is 18 June and will share my thoughts nearer the time.
With that in mind, I will be holding another public meeting about this issue next month - if you want to take part please get in touch with me via my website and I will ensure you receive the details.
If you want to take part in National Grid's latest consultation on its proposals, National grid has provided the following information:
