I seem to be writing to Royal Mail almost every week at the moment – and have been since Christmas – reporting a poor service for constituents in North Weald, Ongar, Brentwood, Hutton and Ingatestone.
It’s clear from the geographical range of places from which constituents are reporting problems that this is not a case of one postie being off sick. And every time I write to Royal Mail to report problems – and the firm belief of many constituents that postal workers are being told by management to prioritise parcels over letters, despite denials from Royal Mail Management - I receive a letter from the Royal Mail Public Affairs Team saying mail deliveries “have been affected over recent weeks due to a high percentage of colleagues being away from work through sickness” as well as a number of job vacancies not being filled.
The British postal service at its best is exceptional but with constituents writing to me (or emailing when they feel a letter just won’t get to me) to say they have missed hospital appointments or had parking fines double because the letters arrived too late, I am very concerned about what is going on.
I will continue to report poor service to Royal Mail if you contact me about it but, if you know of anyone looking for a job, I am told there are vacancies to be found at www.jobs.royalmailgroup.com
