My work as the Member of Parliament for Brentwood and Ongar is returning to normal after the hiatus caused by the six week general Election campaign. As I look round Parliament and see so few familiar faces from the previous cohort, many of whom were excellent colleagues and good friends, I feel more fortunate than ever to have been returned as your local representative.
The reduction in my majority is something I take very seriously and I will be working harder than ever to ensure your voice is heard in Westminster. I am currently organising my diary to arrange regular meetings in all wards in the constituency, so if you have any local issues you wish to bring to my attention please get in touch.
My Westminster role remains busy, as I was honoured to be appointed Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland in the new Shadow Cabinet. I have some experience of Northern Irish politics, having previously been Parliamentary Private Secretary to a Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, and travelled there regularly both in that role and when I was working with the Attorney General and in the Cabinet Office. It’s an endlessly fascinating brief and I am grateful to all those who have been helping brief me this week.
As before, you can contact me via my website www.alexburghart.org.uk if you need advice or assistance with issues of concern, and I will always do my best to ensure you receive the assistance you may need.
