The latest consultation about National Grid’s proposal to build a line of massive pylons from Norwich to Tilbury, through Ingatestone, Haverings Grove and West Horndon in this constituency, ends this Friday (26th July)
If you have not yet made your views known, you can email National Grid on [email protected] or complete the consultation here:
With a group of my fellow MPs from Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex, I have been campaigning for an offshore alternative to be offered. We need to make the best use of clean energy created by the offshore windfarms along the east coast of the UK, and I am aware new infrastructure is needed, but not at the expense of local communities whose lives and countryside around them could be disrupted for years.
My colleagues and I have made the case that National Grid has failed to offer real alternatives, failed to set out sufficient detail, failed appropriately to consider alternative less damaging technologies and failed to take account of feedback expressed in response to previous consultations.
Local Conservative Essex County Councillors Lesley Wagland and Louise McKinlay have been working with me to ensure National Grid are in no doubt about residents’ feelings about the onshore pylon proposal and have already secured some route changes. However we are all also making the case that the proposal uses outdated overground pylon technology and the offshore option needs to be considered.
