Final preparations are underway for this week’s Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, with parties planned across the Brentwood and Ongar constituency organised by individuals, families, pubs and councils.
The Ingrave and Herongate Parish Council has sold out tickets for its event on Saturday, featuring the Brentwood Imperial Youth Band and fun for all the family. On Bank Holiday Monday Brentwood Borough Council has a Coronation Festival in King George’s Park where the youngsters of the Imperial Youth band will be making another appearance, this time with the Brentwood School Big Band and massed choirs from across the Borough.
For those heading up to London to take in some of the atmosphere as the Coronation takes place in Westminster Abbey, huge television screens will be in Hyde Park, Green Park and St James’s Park for public viewing on Saturday.
King Charles' Coronation will be the first for 70 years - the last being for Elizabeth II in June 1953 - and the first held on a Saturday since Edward VII in 1902. Buckingham Palace has indicated that the ceremony will combine the ancient and modern - saying it will be "rooted in longstanding traditions" but will also "reflect the monarch's role today and look towards the future".
The “Big Help Out” will take place on Monday 8th May, which is an additional bank holiday to mark the Coronation, across the UK. In tribute to His Majesty The King’s lifetime of public service, the Big Help Out will encourage people to try volunteering for themselves, highlighting the positive impact volunteering has on communities and good causes across the nation. This is not just for one day – the Big Help Out is encouraging us all to investigate voluntary work we can do regularly.
