The last few weeks have passed in a veritable whirlwind of election campaigning, leaflet delivering, door-knocking and forced marches around the Brentwood and Ongar constituency, ready for the General Election this Thursday.
Last week five of the six General Election candidates for our area met for a hustings organised by Brentwood Chamber of Commerce in a packed (and rather warm) room at Old Brentwoods' Rugby Club. There was some appropriately robust interrogation of all of us - with highlights including a question from a 12-year-old resident who wanted to know what we would do for young people (and who said how happy he was with his school and community) and a question from someone asking us why we would encourage local business to join the Chamber of Commerce …
Several businesses present acknowledged the support they had received during the Covid pandemic, with Government assistance to furlough staff or support those who are self-employed. This type of support continues now with the Government’s Levelling Up Fund assisting businesses involved in Brentwood Connected, the Business Improvement District for our three High Streets in Brentwood, Shenfield and Ingatestone.
It’s been a pleasure to support the work of the Chamber of Commerce over the past seven years - their expertise and network is unrivalled and they host an array of impressive events throughout the year, not least the Brentwood Business Awards which showcase the best of local enterprise. If you are interested in joining can find out more about them at brentwoodchamber.co.uk.
Thanks for all your support during the campaign and please don’t forget to go out and vote on Thursday (bring your ID).
