Great news this week from Brentwood Borough Council who have reported its Coronation Festival of Volunteering, held on the Bank Holiday Monday following the Coronation of King Charles III attracted more than 7000 people to King George's Playing Fields.
"The day officially started with the Mayor of Brentwood, Cllr Olivia Francois and H.M Lord Lieutenant of Essex, Jennifer Tolhurst, arriving by horse and carriage provided by Bennetts Funerals, before making an official speech, which included thanks from His Majesty, the King.
The park was filled with a whole host of local charity and voluntary organisations from across the Borough's communities, who were able to showcase the amazing services they provide and recruit some new volunteers.
The day was filled live music and entertainment, a perfect opportunity for families and friends to come together to celebrate. The stage was wonderfully hosted by local presenter and singer, Michelle Ward, who kept the atmosphere jubilant and celebratory as she performed some popular hits to a continuous crowd. The audience was also able to enjoy performances from Brentwood Imperial Youth Band, St Thomas’ Church Mass Choir and Brentwood School's Big Band.
As well as tucking into picnics, visitors were able to enjoy a selection of food and drinks on offer, including cream teas & Pimm's provided by Doddinghurst Road Church and the Rotary Club of Brentwood. Those wishing to participate in more activities were able to try a variety of free sports, provided by local clubs, and also take part in Skate Jams and skateboard decorating in the skate park.
The day ended with a parade by uniformed services and local voluntary organisations.
The Coronation Festival was a huge success and really captured a great sense of community and togetherness, showcasing Brentwood's amazing musicians, sports clubs and Uniformed groups all offering volunteering initiatives and opportunities, which created a memorable and enjoyable day for many.
The event has been supported by a range of sponsors and volunteers who we thank for their invaluable support in participating, in particular, the Air Cadets who helped to steward the event. Thanks must go to sponsors Rainer Hughes Solicitors, Bennetts Funerals and Baker Labels. The event was funded by The National Lottery Community Fund and the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund."
My family and I had a great time at the Festival and it was lovely to chat to so many local volunteers who do so much for the Brentwood community in so many ways.
